What is TMJ Syndrome?

Known as TMD, TMJD or TMJ syndrome, this is a condition affecting the Temporo-Mandibular Joint (TMJ), which connects the mandible or the lower jaw to the temporal bone of the skull, which is located in front of the ear.

Movement in this joint enables you to open and close your mouth and chew from side to side. If your teeth do not fit together properly problems can arise in any of the structures associated with occlusion or `bite'.

TMJ Syndrome symptoms include migraine and chronic headaches, stiff neck, backache, ear noise, jaw clicking and tooth grinding amongst others.
