TMJ Syndrome

Normal Chewing Forces

Abnormal Chewing Forces

The letters TMJ stand for Tempero-Mandibular Joint which is the joint between the lower jaw and the skull. Movement in this joint enables you to open and close your mouth and chew from side to side. If your teeth do not fit together properly problems can arise in any of the structures associated with occlusion or `bite'.

Symptoms include migraine and chronic headaches, stiff neck, backache, ear noise, jaw clicking and tooth grinding amongst others.

At Gentle Dentistry Robert Dobson's special interest in TMJ Syndrome has provided long sought after relief for many patients who were suffering from head, neck and shoulder complaints related to their occlusion.
